Proximity Sensors

← Back to Industry Terms

Proximity sensors are devices that detect the presence or nearness of people, vehicles, or objects within a defined sensing range.

Technologies include radio-based ranging, radar, ultrasonic sensing, and inductive sensing, with different capabilities for different targets. Some sensors indicate presence, while others estimate distance. A sensor’s range does not by itself establish identification accuracy, warning coverage, or stopping distance.

In Trio Mobil applications, UWB devices provide proximity information between compatible equipped vehicles, wearable tags, and supported devices. A tagged worker approaching an equipped forklift can meet a configured alert condition. Detection of an untagged person requires a suitable method, such as supported AI camera recognition.
