LTI (Lost Time Injury)

← Back to Industry Terms

A lost time injury (LTI) is a work-related injury that meets the reporting scheme’s criteria for absence or inability to work after the day of injury. The exact threshold and treatment of fatalities depend on the reporting framework; for example, IOGP includes fatalities and lost workday cases in its LTI count.

LTI is a case classification and count, rather than the number of days lost or an injury frequency rate. Restricted work and job transfer are separate categories in many schemes. Reports should identify the definition used, the workforce covered, and whether fatalities or occupational illnesses are included before comparisons are made.
