Forklift Telematics

← Back to Industry Terms

Forklift telematics is the collection, transmission, and analysis of forklift operating data through connected hardware and software. Depending on the installed system, the data can describe equipment activity, utilization, impacts, and operator access. Fleet teams use this information to understand operating patterns and support equipment allocation, event review, and fleet management decisions.

Data is gathered from the equipped vehicle and communicated to a platform where operating records can be reviewed. The available information depends on the sensors, interfaces, and functions included in that installation.

Telematics provides the data foundation for fleet management, which uses the information to support decisions. For example, comparing activity across shifts may help investigate whether equipment availability matches operational demand.

Interpretation matters as much as collection. An impact record should be reviewed in context, and utilization figures require a defined reporting period and consistent activity states to support meaningful comparisons.
