Downtime

← Back to Industry Terms

Downtime is a period when equipment or a process is unavailable for its intended operation. It can be planned, such as a scheduled maintenance shutdown, or unplanned, such as a breakdown, damage-related interruption, or unexpected repair.

For forklift operations, downtime concerns equipment availability and should be distinguished from idle or standby time, when a vehicle may remain available but is not performing productive work. Meaningful reporting specifies the asset, reporting period, planned operating schedule, and which interruptions are included.
