Trio Mobil uses a multi-layered pedestrian detection approach that combines UWB proximity technology and AI-powered computer vision, allowing facilities to detect risk in different ways depending on the operating environment.
With UWB, equipped forklifts can detect pedestrians carrying compatible wearable tags and measure proximity with high precision, even in situations where direct line of sight is limited. With AI cameras, pedestrians can be detected visually within configured areas without requiring a wearable tag, helping cover visitors, contractors, or other people who may not be equipped with UWB devices.
The strength of the multi-layered approach is that facilities do not have to rely on a single detection method. UWB adds precise proximity awareness, while AI adds tagless visual detection. Used together, they provide broader coverage across blind spots, intersections, mixed-traffic areas, and changing pedestrian workflows.
When risk is detected, these layers can feed the same safety workflow to trigger operator alerts, pedestrian warnings, zone-based controls, and, where integrated, automatic forklift slowdown.
This creates a more resilient forklift safety system by combining complementary technologies rather than depending on one sensor or one type of user behavior.
